What makes a material a composite?
Composite materials are formed by combining two or more materials that have quite different properties. The different materials work together to give the composite unique properties, but within the composite you can easily tell the different materials apart – they do not dissolve or blend into each other. Please see the crosscut picture below.
Chemically the material is petro chemically based and extremely stable. In case the material is exposed to open fire, the material will slowly decompose into carbon and carbon-related non-hazardous substances.
Accelerated laboratory tests indicate that the composite material will show no noticeable changes over a period exceeding 100 years!
